DST continues at the forefront to support National Football Development in Brunei

 In its continuous effort to support the development of National Football in Brunei Darussalam, DST continues for another year as ‘Title Sponsor’ for the upcoming leagues for 2016 season as part of the partnership and collaboration with National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD). The signing ceremony was held on Friday 19th February 2016 at DST Headquarters in Tungku Link for the signing of:


Present as the Guest of Honour and witnessing the signing contract was Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Latiff bin POKSS DP Hj Md Yusof, Member of DST Board of Directors.

A welcoming speech from NFABD was presented by Yang Mulia Awang Hj Madli bin Mohd Yusuf, Acting Deputy President of National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) followed by a speech by Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, Assistant General Manager of Group Corporate Communications in DST.

In his opening remarks by Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, Assistant General Manager of Group Corporate Communications in DST, he explains how DST and NFABD have discussed ways on how to improve football development in Brunei by introducing a new revised game format for Brunei DST-NFABD Super League which uses a ‘one round competition format only’. He explains, “the challenge is to focus on teams and develop them to play in the proper leagues and ensure the right support and resources are channeled to groom them.”

In his speech, Radin Sufri also states DST”s continuous support for youth development in football. “DST has supported NFABD with their youth development activities to continuous apply and hone their skills, such as in NFABD organised football festivals. This includes DST’s own annual initiative “Ihsan Kasih” for Orphans, which in turn is supported by NFABD. We are pleased to note that from the previous initiative, NFABD are able to indentify 10 young orphans who are currently undergoing Under 12 and 14 Grassroots scheme Platforms such as this for the youths, are important to providing a very good base to identify and nurture them to be developed to play in the Brunei DST-NFABD leagues and ultimately qualifying to play for the National Team. As a country we can all contribute to this by creating more similar platforms for this to happen, even if it is just providing for a place to play.”

Representing DST signatories were Suhaimi Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of DST and Radin Sufri Radin Basiuni, Assistant General Manager of Group Corporate Communications in DST.

From NFABD representatives were Yang Mulia, Awang Hj Madli bin Mohd Yusuf, Deputy President of NFABD and Yang Mulia Awang Rosdin bin Hj Abd Aziz Executive Committee Member of NFABD.

DST’s unyielding support towards the promotion and development of national football in Brunei continues until today supporting national football initiatives including Veteran Football Association (VFA) and DPMM Football Club (DPMM FC).

The first match of the 2016 season will commence with the Brunei DST Sumbangsih (Charity Shield Cup) between Indera Soccer Club (ISC) and Majlis Sukan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (MS ABDB) on 5th March 2016, 8.15pm at Padang & Balapan, Komplek Sukan Negara Hassanal Bolkiah.
