Minister visits SEA Games team

THE Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi Haji Mohd Yussof, visited the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games football team during their training session today.
The team, which will be competing at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games later this month, are in the final stages of their preparation for the biennial tournament.
During his visit to the teamís training session at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, the minister Ė who also paid a visit to other national teams training for the SEA Games Ė congratulated the players on their selection.
He also advised the players to stay focused, be confident and play with high sporting spirit.
The team, which has been training six days a week since February, start their campaign in the Malaysian capital against hosts Malaysia on August 14.
They play Myanmar four days later and take on Laos on August 21 before ending their group stage play against Singapore on August 23.
The team, which entered centralised training in March, also played Singapore and Myanmar at last monthís Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-23 Championship qualifiers in Myanmar Ė where they fell 4-1 to Singapore and 3-0 to hosts Myanmar.
