BRUNEI’S manager Ah Chua Bangau wants the national Under-22 team to maintain their focus ahead of their last 2017 SEA Games match against Singapore on Wednesday.
Brunei fell 3-0 to Laos at the UM Arena Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, their third loss in as many games at the biennial tournament.
The team end their Group A campaign against Singapore at the Selayang Stadium on Wednesday, and Ah Chua insists he wants the country to finish the competition on a good note.
“What we want is for the players to focus on the game against Singapore,” he said.
“The team played well against Laos, but Laos took advantage of our few mistakes.
“The players were unable to score from the chances they created, and overall, the players worked hard for the win but luck wasn’t on our side,” he added.
The teams were tied 0-0 at the break before Laos’ Phitack Kongmathilath scored a hat-trick with goals in the 64th, 72nd and 86th minute.
Monday’s other Group A game saw Malaysia beat Myanmar 3-1 at the Shah Alam Stadium to book their berth in the semi-finals.
Hosts Malaysia are second in the table to Myanmar on goal difference but have the chance to top the group when they take on Laos in their final game on Wednesday.
Myanmar have completed their group stage play and were already guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals before the loss to Malaysia.
