Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP) enhanced their reputation in Brunei football today after PIP A won an Under-12 tournament which was organised by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) for the first time ever.
The 16-team tournament saw PIP A win the overall champion award after scoring 12 goals in six games and letting in none. PIP – who were established in 2001 and have won numerous competitions – also had three other sides in the tournament, making them the best represented team in the competition at NFABD House’s Artificial Field.
Among the players who laced up during the half-day tournament were Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb bin Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim who played for International School Brunei (ISB)
NFABD’s Centre of Excellence Brunei Muara (COE BM) finished third behind ISB A and Rimba Star B were fourth.
“PIP A’s good passing game, first touch and control of the ball were why they won the tournament,” explained PIP head coach Hj Omar Hj Jamil.
“They also followed my instructions well and I am very proud of them – and the fact they did not let in a single goal.
“I would like to congratulate NFABD and NFABD Technical Director Yvon Avry for organising this tournament for the children.
“PIP, our coaches, the kids, their parents and our fans and supporters are all very happy with the good organisation.
“We look forward to more one-day carnivals like these in the future, and we will continue to support all of NFABD’s grassroots football plans,” he added.
Games were played over two seven-minute halves, and for the first round, the 16 teams were divided into four groups of four and each team played each other once.
