National Under-18 coach Takao Fujiwara yesterday apologised for their 7-0 loss to Myanmar at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-18 Championship on Saturday.
It was their second heavy defeat at the tournament in Yangon, Myanmar, after opening with a 3-2 win against the Philippines last Tuesday and losing their second game 8-1 to Vietnam two days later.
The team close out their Group B campaign with a game against Indonesia on Wednesday.
“First of all, I want to apologise for the loss to Myanmar,” he said.
“Many people may be disappointed with the score, but I am proud of the players.
“Myanmar was more aggressive than in their previous games and played with the same intensity as Vietnam.
“We should have been more defensive, but after letting in the first goal, we attacked to get the points (draw).
“I’m glad our opponents here always use their first team when playing us - and not their second team.
“This means that other countries recognise that Brunei is not so weak.”
