Friday, September 20, 2019

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD), yesterday witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NFABD and Politeknik Brunei (PB), with regard to extending the certified football and futsal refereeing course for PB students.

The signing, held at the NFABD House, is a follow-up to the MoU of November 23, 2015.

NFABD was represented by its Secretary General Pengiran Anak Mohd Sofian bin Pengiran Anak Haji Ibrahim and Executive Committee member Pengiran Haji Aliudin bin Pengiran Haji Tajuddin, while PB was represented by its Director Denis Ho Mun Tai and Acting Assistant Director Hajah Hanipah binti Haji Apong.

In his speech, Pengiran Anak Mohd Sofian said that through the course, students would be given the opportunity to increase their experience and involvement as referees in NFABD-organised tournaments, especially in the under-16 category.

“NFABD hopes that students joining the programme will use their skills and knowledge to boost the quality of football, especially when refereeing football and futsal games,” he said.

“Moreover, the NFABD also believes that the NFABD-Politeknik Brunei cooperation will produce more human resources in these areas, not only in terms of quantity but quality.”

Denis Ho, meanwhile, said, “Following the signing of the MoU on November 23, 2015, at least four intakes of the basic football and futsal refereeing course were carried out. The basic refereeing course was included in one of the programmes under the Enrichment module of the Centre for Student Development and Innovation (CSDI).

“The aim is to provide students with a detailed understanding of the rules and regulations in football and futsal. The students joining the course will be given 50 enrichment points on completion and will receive certification.”

He disclosed that out of the 85 students who joined the course, four went on to further their studies under NFABD supervision, with one finally appointed as a referee in the ASEAN Football Confederation Championship of the U14 Football Festival in July 2016.

Also present during the signing ceremony were Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman; Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin; and Deputy Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh.
