Brunei Super League, U16 & U19 Tournaments cancelled
Saturday, September 19, 2020

The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) has come about a tough decision-making in cancelling the Brunei Super League 2020 (BSL 2020) due to the worldwide outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The uncertainty faced, on whether NFABD would be able to host football matches has taking its toll and the time constraints to complete the season.

In so far, the Participating Clubs were only able to complete two games in the BSL 2020, with 224 matches in total to go throughout the season, which we initially slated to finish by November this year.

In this light, NFABD also decided to cancel the U16 & U19 tournaments for the very same reason as players will have to readjust with their studies after the 86-day school closure since Brunei Darussalam's first Covid-19 case on March 9.

The decisions made through the NFABD Competition Standing Committee meeting took into consideration of the weather conditions in Brunei Darussalam.

Brunei Darussalam is currently undergoing an uncertain weather condition, which may render the fields to be unfit and unsafe for club to commence their matches.

In this light however, NFABD intended to replace the league straight with an FA Cup instead, with further formats and structure still in consideration until the next de-escalation.

The cut-off date to run the FA Cup however will be no later than 1 November 2020. Competitions are slated to run in mid-November and are hopeful to finish no later than 2nd week of December 2020 with possibility of converting the NFABD artificial field to a competition venue.

This is to select the club which will represent Brunei Darussalam in the 2021 AFC Cup edition. However, the plan would totally dependant on the approval, as well as the situation with the upcoming de-escalation.

Additionally, NFABD would also like to note that the next national call up in the FIFA Calendar will be from October 5 to October 13.
