Yang Mulia, Awang Haji Suhaimi Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of DST
Yang Mulia, Awang Haji Madli bin Haji Mohd Yusof, Acting Deputy President NFABD
Yang Mulia, NFABD Executive Committee Members, DST Senior Management,
Representatives from participating football clubs, media and press, ladies and gentlemen.
Alhamdulillah with the grace and blessing of Allah SWT, today, we will be witnessing another significant collaboration between DST and NFABD with the signing of DST’s sponsorship for the “Brunei DST Super League, Brunei DST Premier League, Brunei DST FA Cup and Brunei Charity Cup 2016”
Foremost, I would like to thank Yang Mulia, Awang Abdul Lattif Bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusuf, Member of DST’s Board of Director, for kindly consenting to be the Guest of Honour for today’s event.
DST continues to applaud, the commitment and dedication shown by NFABD especially with the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah Ibni Al- Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, President of NFABD and its Executive Committee in developing football in Brunei Darussalam.
Our support for Brunei football and NFABD goes beyond just sponsorship, we would also like to contribute in the betterment of football and also youth development.
For this year’s sponsorship, continuous football development is one of our agenda, where DST and NFABD had been discussing ways how this can be improved.
DEVELOPMENT OF FOOTBALL
Firstly, we noted that NFABD will be introducing a revised games format for the Brunei DST Super League for this season, and will be using a One Round Competition format only.
On a team level, the challenge is to focus on teams and develop them to play in the proper leagues and ensuring that the right support and resources are channeled to groom them.
Secondly, we also further noted the introduction by NFABD of two new clubs, namely Tabuan Muda Under 21 in the Brunei DST Super League, and Tabuan Under 17 in the Brunei DST Premiere League to facilitate a proper succession of new players to step up in filling their senior player’s shoes.
Thirdly, it is my understanding that it is now mandatory for every team to have certified coaches, which will certainly value add to the quality of the team performance. This is another laudable example for NFABD to organise AFC ‘C’ certificate Coaching Course training recently, using this platform to produce future well trained coaches.
Another continuous theme of our support is on youth development. We are encouraged that NFABD organises programs that covers from the grassroots foundation, youth development and to their professional development.
DST had supported NFABD with this youth development activities to continuously apply and hone their skills, such as in NFABD organised football festivals.
This includes DST’s own annual initiative “Ihsan Kasih” for Orphans, which in turn is supported by NFABD. We are pleased to note that from the previous initiative, NFABD are able to identify 10 young orphans who are currently undergoing Under 12 and Under 14 Grassroots scheme. Insya Allah for this year, DST will be organising this in April.
Platforms such as this for the youths, are important to providing a very good base to identify and nurture them to be developed to play in the Brunei DST-NFABD leagues and ultimately qualifying to play for the National team. This cycle needs to be continuous so that more and more talents are identified. As a country, we can all contribute to this by creating more similar platforms for this to happen, even it is just providing for a place to play.
Through this alliance and various initiatives to develop football for Brunei Darussalam, it is hoped that DST can be instrumental to assist NFABD to strengthen the position of football in Brunei Darussalam, contributing to Brunei Darussalam realising its full potential to be more competitive and to be internationally recognised.
Lastly we wish all the best to the participating teams, all the best in the
competition and may the best of sportsmanship prevail.
Wabillahi Taufik Walhidayah Wassassalamualaikum Warahmahtullahi
